Proof reading and translation are learnt skills that require a deep understanding of a language and it's grammar rules. Although we are all capable of communicating with each other to some extent either through speech (aurally) or through the written word, the accuracy of this communication is often less than perfect. In most of our day to day lives these misstakes cause us few problems even though they may cause are friends or colleagues to laugh at some of the things we say. But what if you need to produce a written document you want taken seriously. Of course you can use your spell checker to find the obvious mistake's, but it is unlikely that you're proofreading skills will be good enough to identify some of the more common errors that a trained proof reader could quickly highlight. Also, when proof reading your own work it is often difficult to take an objective view of the work because you are to personally involved. As a proof reader you need to stand back an read the document from the readers point of view. It not only has to be spelled correctly, with correct grammar usage, but it also has to make sense. One of my mane tasks while proof reading is to ensure the consistent use of capital letters, abbreviations, header styles, indents etc throughout the document. A professional proof reader will always try to preserve the style of the authors' writing. This is a delicate balancing act that requires the proof reader to conserve the writer's voice and there idiosyncrasies while at the same time correcting any inaccuracies. The proof reading process is invaluable as the proof reader will make many suggestions for improving the document in every way.

Every company should employ an independent
proof reader to check every document they produce. With so many employees writing in many different styles, how can you ensure consistency of your house style? What affect will poorly written letters, contracts, advirtisements or tenders have onto your company? Always use a proof reading service with extensive experience and you will find you have less mistakes spoiling your public image.

As a German translator and a French
translater, I always have to proofread my English translations in great depth. It is easy to get carried away trying to find the correct translation for a sentence without thinking about the flow of the document. This is when I have to practice what I preach! German translaters and French translators become experts in identifying the tone of documents very quickly and a key aim is to reproduce the tone of voice of the original document in a different language. The translation should be an equivalent to the original not a literal translation. This does not give the French and German translators license to change the meaning too much and great care must always be taken with idioms. "C'est du Chinois pour moi" literally means "It's all Chinese to me" but a professional French translater will know that this should be translated as "It's all Greek to me" for an English speaker to fully understand that this means "it is double dutch". Unbelievably, two of the most prominent free on line translation services translates this as "It is of the Chinese for me" - a dire warning not to rely on these automatic French translater services. With respect to German idioms, the German translator knows that "Sie hat nicht alle Tassen im Schrank" does not literally mean "she has not all cups in the cupboard" as was suggested online today! It actually means that "she's not all there" or "she's slightly mad". Another good reason to use the services of a trained German translater!

So, now's your chance to make use of our Free
Trail offer to see how we can help you.
